Exponents and Functions

1. $3^4 \times 3^{-2} = 3^{4+(-2)} = 3^2 = 9$.

2. $\frac{5^6}{5^4} = 5^{6-4} = 5^2 = 25$.

3. $(2^3)^2 = 2^{3 \times 2} = 2^6 = 64$.

4. This is not a function. The input $x = 2$ is paired with two different outputs ($y = 7$ and $y = 8$). A function must assign exactly one output to each input.

5. $f(4) = 3(4) - 5 = 12 - 5 = 7$

$f(-2) = 3(-2) - 5 = -6 - 5 = -11$
